Delhi to Varanasi

Firstly, let me wish all of my students and those I am connected to, a very meaningful and peaceful Christmas.  I think if we understood the compassion of Jesus and Buddha, our lives would be so different.......around the world, there is still a lot of emphasis given to Christmas, on giving presents, eating lots of food, drinking etc. but let's take a moment to recall all the people who are suffering in extreme situations.  You know who I am talking about, the refugees wherever they are, those in war zones etc.  I don't need to enumerate them to you, as you know about them through the news.

However, do we stop and give a few moments during Christmas to develop compassion and love towards them?  It might be a good idea for us to donate towards those who are needy rather than giving another object to somebody who already has a house full of objects!

Students often write to me, asking what they can do to develop their Dharma practice.  Give up your clinging attachment and develop and grow the open, loving, compassionate heart.  That's all!!  Yes, tall order perhaps, a lot to ask, but possible to do, especially at this time of year, when there is so much emphasis of it being a time of loving and giving.  Let's spread that loving and giving to those we don't know, we don't necessarily care about, and at least pray for their well being and happiness, not just now but forever.

Thank you.  Big love.  Ven Namgyel.
ps I attended HH's teachings in Delhi, thanks to the kindness of the Russians.  Now in Varanasi on the way to Bodh Gaya for a few days, then back to Rishikesh and Song River.
