Mumbai Mani Workshop

Some monk friends and myself will be organising a special event in Mumbai starting on the 13th January.  Then continuing on the 15th-19th January 2018.  There will be special timings when the sand mandala is being constructed, and you can sit and meditate or watch.  In the evenings I will give teachings on compassion and there will be chanting of the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra for world peace, but especially for the peace and success of Mumbai.  The whole event is only by donation, so nobody is excluded.  We do have considerable expenses to get to Mumbai and to stay there, but we are sure the generosity of those with, will cover all the expenses we will incur.  Thank you so much.  For further details, please look at my fb events page which gives the address and the timings.

Spain here we come - are you?

Tushita Dharamkot India

Having arrived at Tushita, I immediately relaxed into the feeling of being in one of Lama Zopa Rinpoche's centres.  It is so well organised.  There is a basket of yummies, a basket of toiletries and all the passwords for the wifi network.  What more can I ask for??  My course starts on the 22nd and finishes on the 1st.  I'm moving into my new place in Kangra valley on the 1st and on the 3rd flying to Delhi then Madrid for some courses in Europe.  Will be back in Kangra valley beginning of June, when I am available to teach Reiki One or Reiki Two courses.  Email me if interested:  venerable (at) me dot com

I received such a nice letter from Robin, who runs an amazing charity in Mumbai.  I felt I had to share it with all of you, not from an ego point of view, but to show you how each one of us can affect others in a positive way.

22nd March 2017.    this is an unedited letter from Robin.

Dear Venerable Namgyel,

I hope this message finds you well! I’m not sure if you remember me, but I’m the one who runs Kranti, the NGO in Mumbai for sex workers’ kids. I took the intro course at Tushita with you in 2014, and then also Healing Disturbing Emotions in 2015, after which I took my refuge vows with you. One of my NGO students (Farah) then attended your course in Mumbai and also took refuge vows with you. I don’t know if she’s emailed you since then, but she’s now studying at a Buddhist university in Los Angeles, where her favorite course is taught by a monk – comparing Eastern & Western Psychology.

Anyway….the reason I’m writing is because I owe you the biggest, biggest thank you of my life. Perhaps it was karma that I attended your course, or maybe it was just the right time, but your intro course and my subsequent learnings from Buddhism have defined my life for the past two years. I could never even articulate the things that have changed and improved in my life the past two years, but I'm sure you can imagine, considering how many people you've taught. :) I feel so incredibly lucky to have attended your classes and had the privilege of learning so much from you. You truly are one of the most amazing teachers at Tushita and I can’t begin to imagine the number of people whose lives you’ve impacted.

On a separate note, I actually haven’t told many people yet, only my close friends, but I have recently decided that after Kranti is sustainable, I want to pursue meditation and Buddhism full-time. I’m not sure whether this will mean studying, becoming a nun, or sitting in a cave, :P but I definitely want to do it. I’ve met so, so, so many incredible teachers and spiritual leaders the past couple years. When I look at the amount of energy it takes for me to help 20 girls, I can see that it takes enlightened beings the same amount of energy to help thousands of people. And if I have the seed of Buddhahood, it seems that nurturing that will be the best way to help people.

While, I’m not sure how far I’ll get towards enlightenment even if I dedicate my life to meditation, I do feel very, very strongly that I must pursue it. If I don’t use my “gifts” - my healthy body/mind, my ability to survive on little food and sleep, and all the other positive things I have in this life to pursue enlightenment, I will truly feel like I wasted this lifetime. And then I’ll come back as a turtle. ;)

Anyway. Thank you for reading, Venerable. I am honestly saying, from the bottom of my heart, tgat I am indebted to you for several lifetimes. Thank you for being such an inspirational, compassionate, understanding (and witty) teacher. You can’t imagine the amount of lives you’ve touched. Thank you. We are blessed to know you!

With lots of love and endless gratitude,

Robin Chaurasiya

Kathmandu to Mumbai

In a couple of days I leave Kathmandu for my teachings in Mumbai.  There is a public teaching on the 7th April (by donation) Friday evening and then the weekend teaching.  Very much looking forward to meeting old Mumbai friends again and of course many new students.  I have been staying in Kathmandu with a dear friend and every day going to the Boudhanath stupa for mantra and circumambulation.  I make the most of the situation, because once back in India it is back to the stupa in the mind!  Weather is definitely getting warmer here and we have had a few thunderstorms, but nothing like the heat of India I think.  Have added new teachings to my schedule, so please check it out on the teaching schedule page.  Take care and big love.

New horizons

Hello everybody, I spent two weeks looking for a place to live around the Kangra valley, found it, and then it all went pear shaped, as we say in Australia!  It fell through.  So, I re-evaluated and decided to move back to Rishikesh for a while and offer a programme from August onwards, whenever I am not teaching somewhere else.  Gradually, the details are being put on a new site:

There are weekend courses as well as ten day courses.
Looking forward to seeing you.
